Shop Windows

On January 7, 2012, in General Shop Chatter, Wedding Flowers, by Paula

When I first opened the shop, I would spend an age designing a window display.  From colour schemes to design work I wanted to display, the list was endless, and it was one of my favourite tasks…. right until….

We got busy!!

And then with all the Weddings, Christenings, Funerals, Valentines, Mothers Day…. balloons jobs at parties etc etc.  I found time dwindling away until the window became a chore and “it will do” designs were put in.  Well, not any more!!

2012 is the “Year of the Window” at our shop.

I am totally re committed to doing the windows, showing our creativity in design and colour and letting you our customers, really see what we are made of!!  I have tons of ideas and wish I could do them all at once..

But, I have to start somewhere, and it all kicks off with a bit of a traditional, yet luxurious wedding window.  Mainly made with roses and ivy, this window is what I believe, is the epitome of any wedding.  With simple designs made with luxurious flowers to give massive impact using a monochromatic colour scheme, we are sure passing brides will be impressed (which of course is the ultimate aim).

So, if you can not make it to the shop this week to see our latest wedding flower window or in fact you don’t even live in Widnes, here are a few snap shots of it for you to view.

As you can see we have included our two 4ft candleabras with full rose displays and trailing ivy designs.  We have also included a new design, the open heart with roses and organza entwined.  The glass cubes are excellent for giving a feel of elegance especially when we soften them with ivy and add roses in the centre for a simplistic yet effective look.

We have also coupled up two designs that we love, a cylinder vase with ivy nestled in a wreath of roses and mixed foliage.

And, what about the handbag designs that we are just loving at the moment.  You really have to see these in “real life” to appreciate their creative artiness..  or the rose dome that is adorned with pearls and brooches to make it a more personal effective piece of art.

And, don’t forget, you seen them here first!!

If you would like to discuss your wedding flowers, give us a call on 0151 424 7444 or email us at info@about-flowers.co.uk and make an appointment for your own personal consultation.  Remember, this is absolutely NO OBLIGATION consultation, we promise.  You will be pleasantly surprised at how much we discuss and how confident you feel by the end of it.  And, you go away knowing how much exactly you will be spending and what your designs will look like.

And just in case you are wondering, we cover lots of areas including Widnes, Liverpool, Warrington, Runcorn, St Helens, Manchester and North Wales.

We have recently decided to expand our services to the whole of the UK and would be happy to take our skills and travel.  Of course, for this service we do have a minimum fee and would discuss this on a personal one to one consultation.

As always, with lots of flowery love…… Paula xxx

Funeral Flowers and Donations

On November 4, 2011, in Funeral Flowers, by Paula

A funeral hearse without flowers can be upsetting even to a passer by…..

So, About Flowers have come up with an initiative which will see us give 10% of all funeral flower sales to a charity of the senders choice.

We know funerals can be a taboo subject and we dont want to be insensitive but we feel that this is a very important topic and hopefully can bring benefits to everyone concerned.  Already our customers are reacting  positively to this new initiative.

We have a full range of funeral flowers on our website … www.about-flowers.co.uk

Let’s start with the reception room…..

as this will be where you will spend most of your day.

Chair Covers

Even as florists, when our main passion is for flowers, no one can deny the beauty, class and elegance chair covering can bring to a room.  We have a full range of chairs available including Cotton or Lycra fabric.  We also have Black, White and Ivory chair covers with a range of bows.

Top Table

Are you having a long table or round table?  This must be considered before decoration ideas can be decided.

A long table can have many decorations.  From swagging to a long and low design to bowls, cubes and vase designs.  A round table, however, would suit a centre piece to match the rest of the tables in order to give the room a uniformed appearance.  There are some ideas of top table designs on our website but we also discuss new designs all the time to suit different themes.

Centre Pieces

Most wedding receptions have round tables, but some are returning to the E shape table design which is also a very cool way to seat people.  Whilst they are both different designs, similar floral pieces can be used at each, although I would suggest a mirror (round or square), for underneath the former seating plan.

Think about how you would like you would like to feel when you walk into the room for the first time.  Do you want WOW??? Or do you want a more subtle feeling of elegance?  Tall vases or designs with height can give a WOW factor whilst a low design will give the classical elegant feel…

At About Flowers, we have a range of vases and table props  for hire including the following:-

Tall Lily Vases

Small Lily Vases

Glass Cubes

Mirrored Cubes

Small Cocktail Vases

Large Cocktail Vases

Large Wine Glasses

Birdcages

Candleabra Black

Candleabra Silver

Cylinder Vases

Hand Tied Vases

Well, that is all I can think of for the moment.  If you would like to see how we have used some of these vases check out our gallery,

http://www.about-flowers.co.uk/flower_gallery/47

Hire Items

Does the room need any more decoration?  We have some hire items that really make some rooms come to life, including our brand new light curtain, an archway or maybe some topiary trees.

A light curtain can be used behind a top table, behind a dancefloor, at the bottom of a civil room.  This is a great backdrop for some really sparkling photographs – but dont just take my word for it.

Here is a link to viewing them….

http://www.about-flowers.co.uk/flower_gallery/64

So, you have your top table, your centrepieces, and some hire curtains.

 Now, think about the lighting.

You can add a really romantic mood to a room with either candle light or uplighters in your designs.  Or, you can use both.  If the room has any nooks and crannys, you could add some candles in holders around the place to really give impact.

Something Fun?

Do you want to add a bit of fun to your event?  What about a candy buffet?  We do two sizes, a medium and large.  Our sweet buffets are completely different in that we do not use small jars that in our opinion, are very nice but are just that.  No, we make use of all the vases we have in the shop including the large martini, the large wine glasses, birdcages etc etc etc…

Have a look….   http://www.about-flowers.co.uk/press/56/NEW—Sweet-Buffets

Napkins and Tablecloths

If you want to add a bit of extra colour or class to your event, linen napkins can certainly give this.  We now have a full range of colours available for hire at £1 each.  Once again, we have a list of all colours available on our website.

Next time we will be talking about the Church, Civil Room, Wedding Stationery and much more.  Ask us if you want us to cover a topic as we would love to oblige… xx Thanks for reading and if you have any comments, please feel free to leave one x

So, the light curtain is proving to be very popular and the way it changes a room, I can see why…  At the moment, we are giving our archway as a freebie to accompany the light curtain.  Here are some pics for you to look for.  This hotel was in Chester but we know a few hotels in Halton such as The Hillcrest, The Everglades or the Holiday Inn that it would just look fab in.  We have lots of ideas of how to compliment them with flowers as well….. If you want wow, you have come to the right place!!
