We think Julie’s bouquet suited her bridemaids’ dresses and hubby’s waistcoat perfect, do you??   El Torro Red Roes were used for that lovely bright red look….. add a bit of sparkle and you have the perfect bouquet, well we think so but then we are bias ha ha…

Julie and her gorgeous groom showed off their flowers lovely, don’t you think??  And, the beautiful bridesmaids did a pretty good job too!!!

Julie said on facebook…. “hiya paula, just wanted to say thank you sooo much, for all my beautiful, beautiful flowers, they were absolutely gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!……”…. “thanks again for the flowers everytime i look at the pictures i smile, they were beautiful x”

We think that type of comment is priceless, seriously, how nice of her to take the time to tell us how happy she was!!

The Guest Book

(How to get people to leave a message)

Your guest book, as small as it may be, is a very important part of your wedding day.  It is the one remaining thing, along with your photographs that you have left to look at after the event…. 

So, not only is it important to choose the right guest book with your own personal stamp on it, it is important to get capture people’s feelings on the day – this is not something that can be done after the wedding!!   You should make some considerations as to what will be done with it on the day so that you can make the most of it…

Couple of tips..

Have a table designated to display it on.  This is something that you will agree with the venue about.  Ask your florist to perhaps design you a floral arrangement to decorate it, along with some table sprinkles..

Mention it in your speeches. Ask the best man to ask people to take the time to write a message for the bride and groom.

Designate someone to take it around.  Maybe ask a Bridesmaid or Usher if they would be responsible for taking it to each table after the speeches to ask people to write in it.

Do it in the daytime of the wedding.  Once the evening arrives, people will forget about the guestbook and before you know it, you will have an empty book the next day.

Well, we are still coming down from the buzz of Friday night when About Flowers, at the glitzy Chamber of Commerce awards, were voted, Retailer of the Year award….

To say we were thrilled would be the understatement of the year and I just really want to thank, in true oscar style, all of our customers for supporting us over the years, my husband for putting up with my obsession, my kids for being cheeky and the dogs..  for just following me around everywhere and never ever judging me!!!  And, last but by no means least, my very very supportive team for just being the best team a girl could ever wish for – they put every ounce of effort into their work and it does not go un noticed, I appreciate every second they put into their work – and it shows in the results!!

So, apart from us we managed to have a great night (champagne filled I might add) with the great Printel, a local print and website design business in Widnes.  Stuart and Gill managed to claim the “Business of the Year award” and listening to all their achievements and committment to the local community, it is a wonder they have not claimed this prize before.  So, from all of us at About Flowers, congratulations to Stuart and Gill and all the team at Printel… We had a great night xxx

We know you all love a dozen red roses and this year we used a rose called Gran Prix.  As much as we loved it, we cant help but think that a dozen Sweet Avalanche Rose really stole the show… Check this out, what do you reckon??

So just in the middle of all the valentines madness, we managed to design Debbie’s wedding flowers.  She opted for Red Majestic Calla Lillies and Passion Roses with Eryngium to compliment.  What do you think??  We loved her choices…

What can I say??? It was amazing… we opened at 11am thinking that we may get a few people in after lunch but the minute the door was open the brides and grooms were flowing in!!  We had a great day and it had such a lovely intimate and relaxed feel about it.  Just want to say thanks to Kerry from Cakes by Kerry for supplying some scrumptious sample cakes, Andrea from Andrea Ellison Photography for shooting people lol and Janet from Century Cars for parking that lovely lovely car outside of the shop and basically bringing a lot of sophistication to the table.  Check out the pics….

Unlike a lot of florists, we have consciously decided not to ask for referrals from Funeral Directors.   It is known in the trade that a lot of funeral directors take up to 20% commission from florists and I prefer to give my customers a 100% value in their last tribute to a loved one. 

So, next time a director asks you if you would like them to sort out the flowers, please give it a second thought.  You may get a much more personal service from your local florist.  Even if you dont choose us, choose someone who is working directly for you.  Not for a funeral director.

We have done quite a few funeral pieces this last couple of weeks and we would like to offer our condelences to the families that are still suffering after their loss and also thank them for trusting us to design their pieces.  Thanks…
